How does hosting the Olympics benefit the host country?

Aside from economics, and worldwide attention/recognition – how else does the host country of the Olympics benefit from Hosting the games?

Please include two or more ideas that would be worth researching as part of a paper. Also, what counter claims can I make for economics and worldwide recognition?

Cities who host the Olympic Games must commit to significant investments in Sports venues and other infrastructure. It is commonly assumed that the scale of such and event and the scale of the preparation for it will create large and lasting economic benefits to the host city. Economic impact studies confirm these expectations by forecasting economic benefits in the billions of dollars. Unfortunately these studies are filled with misapplications of economic theory that virtually guarantee their projections will be large. Ex-post studies have consistently found no evidence of positive economic impacts from mega-sporting events even remotely approaching the estimates in economic impact studies

What is the best web hosting for bloggers right now?

I want to start my own Sports blog, and I need web hosting to do it. What is the best web hosting out there now? Are there any web hosts where you can preorder web hosting for someone else as a gift, or where you can buy a web Hosting gift card? I might want web hosting for Christmas if it’s possible to do.

Just use Blogger or Wordpress to get started.

What is the best green web hosting service on the net?

Green web hosting are hosting providers that are powered by renewable energy such as wind and solar power. I am looking for the one with the best balance of service and world-saving initiatives. Thanks!

There’s several — the top of the lot are Thinkhost and Hostpapa. Both have great affordable plans, and both fund Environmental initiatives like tree-planting, awareness campaigns etc.

In my opinion, http://squidoo.com/greenwebhosting is one of the top green web Hosting resources on the net today.

How can I get web hosting from my internet provider?

I have Qwest internet, and I want to know if there is a way that I can get web hosting from them. Otherwise, does anyone know of any sites that are relatively inexpensive and effective for web Hosting?

yahoo geocities is free (ads will be shown on your finished page)

if you’re looking to pay… (no ads) 1&1 has really good prices for hosting & domains

godaddy claims to have good prices but I went with 1&1 for the hosting and domain deal.

What is hosting regular season games in Europe going to accomplish?

I don’t get what the NFL is hoping to accomplish by Hosting regular season NFL games in London. They are all too weak and sissy to understand a real sport,t hey’d rather watch weak sports like soccer, rugby and cricket.

The NFL is still trying to expand the fan base outside of the US. This would eventually produce more revenue if it does take off. Using our current NFL is a lot cheaper than going with the old Euro league of redshirt and bench players of the NFL. On top of that, the games that were played overseas or in Mexico were all stadium sellouts. Although football is not as popular in other countries, there are foreigners that like the sport.

Soccer, Rugby and Cricket are their preffered sports much like football is our prefferred sport. They are totally different sports with different rules and really should not be compared even if it has some similarities. I don’t fully understand the game of soccer, rugby, or cricket and have no interest because I don’t understand it as much as I do football. This is probably why the rest of the world has not really grasped on to football, especially since there are far more rules than most other Sports and can be hard to follow for someone who has not grown up with the sport. I am still trying to get my wife to understand the game of football after several years. LOL!

I am keeping an open mind about the idea of the NFL having games played out of the US. I think it would be great to see the world grasp onto a sport that we love so much as a nation. Wouldn’t it be cool to see the world compete against each other like the do in soccer?

Thumbs up to those who agree.

What are the most recommended free web hosting sites?

I’m planning to build a website but since geocities free hosting has shut down, I have to find another web host that is easy to use, navigate, has efficient web tools and has faster loading time. Could anyone share any web host sites and their advantages and disadvantages so I can compare which one is the best? Thanks.

Hi galaxyangel_mint,

The criteria you mentioned seem to apply only to
reliable paid Hosting.

I don’t know why you insist on free hosting service
because from the business point of view, they
don’t provide reliable server to run your website,
even though you upgrade to become their paid users
later on.

When you face an urgent matter, they can’t help
you instantly since they only provide email support.

But if you’re building a personal website just to
share with your closed friends and family and not
using it as a business platform, then that probably
justifies your choice.

I personally would not recommend any free web hosting
service for my clients who run Businesses because
they really stinks. I’ve used several of them when
I first started out, but they failed me.

Again, if you just want to build a non-profitable
website, any free hosting service will do the trick.
But if you intend to go into business, then I would
suggest you to go get a reliable paid hosting service
which is easy to use, navigate, has efficient web
tools and has faster loading time, as per your expectation.

You might want to refer to the website below which
I found pretty useful and helpful for those who
wanted to know which web hosting service works best
for them.

Best of luck!

Anyone have tips for hosting a party and a good macaroni salad recipe?

I am Hosting a party at our new house this weekend. I’ve never played host before, so I have no idea what to do. There will be about 20 people there and hopefully it doesn’t rain.

Along with entertaining, I need to develop a menu. I believe we will do hamburgers and hot dogs (any other ideas are welcomed), but I am stumped for side dishes. Does anyone have an easy and delicious macaroni salad recipe? I would prefer if it didn’t have any seaFood in it.

Macaroni Salad

1 package salad macaroni, cooked
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1/2 onion, chopped
3 ribs of celery, chopped
Mayonnaise (however much you want it to be, start with a small amount and add a little at a time until you reach desired consistency)
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese (depends on how much you want in the salad)

Mix the macaroni, bell pepper, onion and celery together, then add mayonnaise. Add cheese last, and any more mayo, if required. Salt and Pepper to taste. Better if made the night before, the flavors merge together.

Fresh fruit skewers are always a fun addition – watermelon, cantelope, pineapple. Chips, potato salad, or cole slaw are always good, too. If you want recipes for the potato salad or cole slaw, just email me.

Whats the difference between Linux web hosting and Windows web hosting?

Heya Please tell em what the difference is between linux web Hosting and windows web hosting. I made my site by dreamweaver does that affect either of the 2 i should choose please tell me thanx!

Windows and Linux often use two different web server applications. Windows sites use the Windows IIS server, while nearly all Linux sites use Apache.

Linux sites focus on PHP, Perl and other open-source script languages for server side scripting. Windows-based sites use ,NET and ASP Technologies. They might also offer support for PHP.

Linux sites offer MySQL as the database for backend content storage. Windows sites will probably offer SQL Server, though some offer the Windows versions of MySQL as well.

There shouldn’t be any difference between the two if you use strict web standards in your HTML. However, you need to be aware of the fact that, since Dreamweaver is a Windows-only product, it may insert some non-standard things into your HTML. Frontpage also does this.

As long as you stick to accepted web standards and don’t use any Windows-centric stuff in your site, you should have no problems with either one.
