What are the positives and negatives of selecting shared hosting. Given the choice of shared hosting or dedicated hosting, which would you choose and why?

Few months ago my dad’s company chose shared hosting over dedicated. Personally I was surprised with dad’s decision since dedicated hosting are much better than shared, so I asked him about it and why, and here what I concluded.

First thing I’d like to say is, Shared Hosting is better and have the first priority in web hosting companies than Dedicated since there will be more complainers if it went down or anything bad happend

► If by any chance it crashed, you have your other mates (probably 20 other users) who will complain and the server it will up by the web hosting own company in no time.
► Firewalls, Flash, PHP, MySQL and everything else is already installed free and ready to get used.

► To be honest, I can’t find any con about it since I couldn’t find any trouble with it plus that I have 2 main .com domains and 27 sub domains, and it runs very smooth and fast plus that every domain and sub got a forum running on each one of them.

Ircd will run an IRC daemon on the server for you. You only get to control it – no other aspects of the server.

Shell hosting means that you can log into the server and execute any commands that you like, probably over ssh. That means that you can run an IRC daemon, but also a lot more stuff at once such as a web server. It is also harder to set up and maintain.

I didn’t set this website up, and at the same time, my client cant seem to remember the Hosting server he used. I was able to find the registrar in which the domain name was registered, but no information about where the website is being accessed from. Sure I could rout the DNS to the new hosting company, but then he’d be paying hosting across two servers! How do I find the hosting company of this domain name?
