I have a home theatre system but i want a subwoofer with a lot of base with a built in amp any suggestions?

Posted by on August 23, 2010

its a panosonic Home theatre system the sub that is included doesent put out enough base for my taste.

Paradigm has good room-shaking subs, depending how much you want to spend, the PW-2200 is a good value, but if you want to make your neighbors think they are experiencing an earthquake the Signature Servo would be your best bet.

Sunfire also makes very powerful subs, the True Subwoofer EQ Signature has an amazing 2700 watts amp.

There are a lot of subwoofers out there. Some sound no better than kicking a cardboard box and others will make your pant legs shake. Some are one note boxes that hit very hard at a narrow band of frequencies and still others will run well into the low twenties with out blinking. Your budget will dictate what you can get. One of my favorites for under 1K is from Paradigm:

Although I opted for a pair of Infra Subs from BagEnd Systems:

The best way select is to find a number of subs in your price range, bring some material that you’re very familiar with, request that the sub be set up in a listening room close to the size you’ll be using it in and put them to the test. When you’ve selected one you like, ask the salesperson what you could get for a few bucks more (read a couple hundred) and seriously consider if it would be money well spent. The sub is the foundation of your sound and while you can turn down too much bass, you can’t turn up one that doesn’t have enough.

I had the same problem until I picked up a Pioneer SW1000 Active Sub.It is 15" and has plenty of power, also has centre channel output,volume/centre controls.
Really kicks ass with my Bose Accoustimass (front/centre) Infinity Reference (rear/centre) speakers.
I suggest you read up on Passive vs Active subs.
There are advantages to going Active as I did.
It lets you use seperate power for your bass/centre while freeing up power from your amp/reciever thus preventing overheating and less distortion on the amp/reciever because it has its own power.
Do not ever buy a cheap sub.buy a great sub,it is crucial for the true surround experience.
