What retail stores are not in danger of closing in time of a recession?

Posted by on December 27, 2009

I am trying to find a loss prevention position at a Retail store, do you know which ones will not close?
Walmart, Sam’s Club, what else?

Costco, Target, Macy’s; any of the very large stores that sell a product people need or are large & established enough to weather the storm.

I don’t know — a lot of those places rely on foreign products, and if the economy goes down the drain while the gas prices go up, shipping is going to be a problem. They may go down faster than a mom ‘n’ pop store that relies on local products.

Farmers’ Markets . . . I wonder if they’d be open to security officers. They might be willing to band together to get one.

I’d say choose something you feel good about, and save as much as you can to tide you over. If you do a good job, I think you’ll always be able to find a job somewhere, even if your employer goes belly-up.
